About the Crushers

That's really what we are all about! Carolina Crushers Composite is a co-ed mountain bike race team that is comprised of middle and high school student athletes that live in Orange County and that are not enrolled in the Chapel Hill / Carrboro City School System. Our team is a part of the North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League (NCICL) which is a part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA.) 2017 was the NCICL's inaugural season, and the League is just one of the 21 leagues across the United States. During the inaugural year, NCICL had over 30 teams across the state representing over 300 student athletes. NCICL was organized to provide a safe, fun and high quality mountain biking program for student athletes in grades 6 - 12. Regardless of ability, NCICL and the Carolina Crushers are committed to youth development and providing a positive experience for all student athletes in accordance with NICA's Five Core Principals:

When in season, our team practices on two weekday evenings during the week and we ride trails on the weekends, focusing on skills building and fitness. During the spring, the student athletes may choose to participate in any of 5 races that are held across the state. Racing is voluntary. A student athlete does not have to commit to racing in order to participate on the team. We welcome all - and all abilities. Head Coach

Tonya has been mountain biking for just over five years - but has fully immersed herself in cycling.  Riding road, mountain and most recently cyclocross - Tonya enjoys cycling for the friendships and being outdoors.  She loves giving back to the cycling community as a youth coach and draws her inspiration from the energy that the student athletes bring to the Crushers!

Team Director and Asst Head Coach

Marissa has been mountain biking for over 20 years - but she and her family have recently become "all-in" cyclists.  Everyone in the family rides - mountain, cyclocross, unicycle or just a casual ride around the neighborhood.  Marissa is our "organizer-in-chief" - making  sure our practices get scheduled, students and parents are informed, and the paperwork gets done.  She is also our head "cheerleader" - always cheering on every student athlete as they cross the finish line!

Pre-season Trail Ride – Saturday 16 November 2019

Because of the weather and trails being closed, we are canceling our preseason ride scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00.

Our next ride is scheduled for early December. Details will be out soon.
